YouTube has added a third country to its online movie rentals service: the UK. The service originally debuted in the US in May, before launching in Canada in September. YouTube says it has more than 1,000 full-length films available in the UK version. “Many movie pages also feature YouTube Movie Extras with free behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, parodies, clips and remixes from YouTube’s unique community of content creators,” notes the company’s blog post. There have been some complaints about pricing: one commenter is angry at £2.99 for The Big Lebowski “which I can buy for about the same price all over the internet, for a DVD copy, which I would have for life, and could even sell on to recuperate my expense at a later date”. £2.99 doesn’t sound too bad for a rental to us, but maybe we’re stuck in the Blockbuster era…
