YouTube video roils special congressional campaign

Posted in : You Tube News

Democratic leaders and others on Tuesday reacted angrily to what they characterized as an offensive and sexist YouTube video that tries to portray Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, a Democrat, as friendly to gang members.

And they called on businessman Craig Huey, Hahn's Republican opponent in a July 12 special election for an open congressional seat, to condemn the video and demand that its makers, Turn Right America, take it down. "The Internet video in question is inappropriate, highly offensive and has no connection whatsoever to the Craig Huey campaign,"  his campaign said in a statement.

The video portrays Hahn with red eyes and uses pole dancers to accompany its hip-hop-style message delivered by actors portraying gang members and using language many people would find offensive. Hahn and Huey are running for the largely coastal 36th Congressional District seat vacated by the February resignation of Rep. Jane Harman (D-Venice).
