What It Means When YouTube Gets Small, and Big

YouTube, as I write in an article Friday, is following its viewers away from the computer screen to screens both big and small. People are increasingly watching videos on the tiny screens on their cellphones. YouTube gets 160 million mobile views a day, almost triple the number last year.
People watch videos on their phones if they are commuting on public transport, if they are too lazy to boot up their laptops or, in the case of Eric E. Schmidt, Google’s chief executive, when they are trying to spice up a party.

Something strange was going on with the Internet night last, and it seems that traffic to several popular sites such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook were redirected to servers in China, which effectively put people behind the famous Great Firewall of China, giving users a taste of what Internet users in China see when they try to access those blocked sites.
Olympic hopeful Nodar Kumaritashvili's luge accident has not only led to a flood of YouTube 'reports' and comments but also to just as many critical voices regarding users making money from the tragic death.
YouTube recently unveiled a new section for TV shows and full-length movies. With partners like Crackle, CBS, MGM, Lionsgate, Starz and more it now offers thousands of TV episodes and hundreds of movies for visitors to watch, comment on, favorite and share.
